Amateur satellite tooling

Working the birds,
from the card to the desktop.

Open-source tools for tracking OSCAR satellites, correcting Doppler across three CAT families, and printing the OSCARLOCATOR overlays — plus a dedicated M17 reflector for satellite ops. Built and flown by Paul Stoetzer, N8HM.

The fleet

Five tools for one job: getting you on the pass.

From a pocket tracker that Doppler-tunes your rig, to a full desktop analysis suite, to browser-based OSCARLOCATOR generators and a voice reflector for satellite nets.

DEV01

Embedded firmware · ESP32-S3CardSat

A self-contained, offline-first satellite tracker for the M5Stack Cardputer ADV. Predicts passes with SGP4 and drives an Icom, Yaesu, or Kenwood radio over CAT with real-time Doppler correction — the “One True Rule” holds your signal steady at the satellite. Polar sky plots, an all-favorites pass schedule, AOS alarm, mutual-window finder, GS-232 rotator support, and full offline caching once GP data is loaded.

APP02

Cross-platform desktop · PythonOrbitDeck

The tracking and orbital-analysis brain of CardSat, ported to a roomy desktop UI with embedded plots. Twenty-plus screens: a live 3D globe, sky radar, eleven pages of orbital analysis, link budgets and Doppler playbooks, mutual windows, illumination rasters, workable grids / states / DXCC, EME and space-weather panels — and one-click printable PDF reports. Runs out of the box on a bundled pure-Python SGP4, with the C-accelerated reference backend as an optional extra.

WEB03

Browser tool · liveOSCARLOCATOR Simulator

The classic AMSAT OSCARLOCATOR, reborn in the browser. Rotate the path-arc overlay over a polar or QTH base map and watch the satellite position and footprint move in real time — no printed transparencies required. Drive it live, seed it to the next pass, or scrub it by hand with equator-crossing longitude and minutes-after-EQX sliders.

WEB04

Browser tool · liveOSCARLOCATOR Web Generator

Generate a print-ready OSCARLOCATOR right in the browser: pick a satellite and your station, and get the matching base map and path-arc overlay as a clean PDF you can print, cut out, and use at the operating position — the paper companion to the live simulator.

NET05

Digital voice reflector · liveM17-SAT Reflector

An M17 digital-voice reflector dedicated to amateur-satellite operating — a meeting point for M17 stations to coordinate passes, run nets, and talk satellites. Watch the live dashboard for connected clients and current traffic.

Operator

Paul Stoetzer · N8HM

Licensed amateur radio operator and active AMSAT contributor, working at the intersection of satellite operating, RF hardware, and software. These projects share one orbital core — SGP4 propagation over AMSAT GP element sets and SatNOGS transponder data — expressed on everything from a pocket ESP32 device to the desktop and the browser.

If these tools are useful to you, please consider joining or donating to AMSAT — the volunteer non-profit that designs, launches, and operates the very satellites these tools are built to track.
